The callout policy at my job is that we have to call and speak to a manager at least 2 hours before our shifts start. If the building isn’t open yet we have to call their personal numbers and speak with them. Texts and voicemails are not accepted, and even if you know the night before that you won’t be in and text them then night before it doesn’t count. On Friday I had to spend 6 hours in the ER for internal bleeding that they couldn’t find a clear cause for. The doctor there told me to take it easy for the week and rest a lot because they weren’t entirely sure what caused the bleeding. He gave me a note excusing me from work for a week and then excusing me from strenuous activity for another week after that. I promptly sent it over to my boss and explained the situation. She said no problem and that she hoped I feel better soon. This morning I wake up to her calling me and she leaves a voicemail saying that I never called out and this will be written up as a no call/no show. Apparently I need to call her every day that I’m out, at 5:30am (2 hours before shift) to tell her what she already knows from the doctor’s note. Wtf?? I’m a preschool teacher at an international company making barely above minimum wage, btw.
