I work for a small company. Owner (my boss), me, and warehouse guy. I wear most of the hats for the operations of the company. Owner has some small tasks and goes on vacation 20+ times a year. I could easily do all of the owner's tasks as my own.
I've worked here for 7 years and the owner has always given me generous raises – typically around 10%. I've worked my salary up to around $85,000. This last December, boss called me in – said money is tight and gave me a $5000 raise from $80k to $85k. My raise didn't cover inflation. Oh well, we've been slow.
I come across the Q4 report for last year – 2022 – while updating our healthcare. My Q4 2022 is $500 less than 2021 due to lack of bonuses. Owner's Q4 is $12k more. Owner now makes more than me + warehouse guy combined, and we do 99% of the company's work.
From what I can tell, he gave himself a 50k raise from 100k to 150k.
While it's none of my business, money has been tight for me & I'm always telling my boss how hard it is. On the other had, my boss has a super rich wife, just built a new $2M home, just purchased a condo in Mexico, and is constantly treating his salary as “fun money” – buying rolex's, 4th and 5th sports cars, etc.
Should I bring it up with him or is it none of my business?
