Today, a very close coworker of mine told my boss that she had to leave 30 minutes early tomorrow due to an impromptu meeting with her parole officer. Boss said that since it wasn’t documented on a time off request, she’d be pointed for it. When she said that this was wrong, he said that her employment would be at risk if she started a “trend” of leaving early. This new point system was implemented two weeks ago…
We’ve also worked 3 hours over our scheduled shifts for the past 3 days…
It really bothers me because I’ve watched her recovery journey since MONTHS before this man was hired on as manager (which was less than a month ago). She has experienced addiction, homelessness, and abuse. Over the past 6 months she has completely turned her life around. She’s been to every court hearing, every drug test, and every parole meeting on time and passed with flying colors. She got herself an apartment, and cleaned herself up. Not to mention she is an INCREDIBLE asset to this company. She comes in early everyday and stays as late as they need her whenever she can, and he has the audacity to threaten her for DOING WHAT THE GOVERNMENT REQUIRES OF HER
Is there anything I can do about this?
