I’m going to make this as short as possible
I live in the UK. I work in a sector that is fast growing (self storage) and I am in a Senior Management position.
I have been running 9 sites with over 1000 units with one other staff member (2 of us for all 9)
Every other week we work 24/7, on call and expected to go out on weekends so essentially 7 days straight then the next 5 days too.
A month or two ago I told my boss this is ridiculous and too much, I have no life outside of work. He said we can hire someone else to spread the workload.
Since said person has been hired I have been told my job after my promotion is now a ‘luxury’ (I still work on call 24 hours 7 days out of 21) and that he expects his moneys worth out of me and my staff members (I am their direct line Manager)
He has said multiple times how lucky I am to have this job and that I wouldn’t get paid better anywhere else. I have a work vehicle which I’m supposed to be grateful for – it literally gets me to work and back and a nice bonus which I literally earn.
He also is a huge bully to one of my colleagues which I can’t stand around and watch any more due to my values as it’s gotten worse and he breeds a culture of ‘work before everything else’
I’m sick of being made to feel that I should be incredibly lucky and grateful to have this job and have been offered other jobs on more money or similar money for less hours.
Is it time to leave? Has anyone experienced this before?
