For context I work for a small not for profit organisation, and started working for them at the end of 2021. My role is a classroom facilitator, but I have had a sharp learning curve in terms of all the additional work my boss (the CEO) would like me to do.
Recently, I had a yearly review with my direct manager and the conversation found its way to focusing on whether or not I have a 5 year plan. When I explained I did, my manager mentioned our boss would be very interested in knowing what it is. I went on to explain that it isn't his business what my plan is, and it is a plan I had established before starting work for the organisation.
I thought that was that, conversation over, right? Wrong. This week our CEO has shared a document we all have to fill out detailing our five year plan, setting targets to achieve it, finding ways for him to help us achieve it, what books we will read yada yada. This might sound good to some people, but to me I can see it is a way to seem like they care about helping my achieve my goals, while also trying to figure out if I plan to leave. The document also asks of us what are our goals for the next two years are while we work for them (I am planning on leaving this year). Ultimately, I think whether or not I have a plan is actually not their business, its personal to myself and my wife. I have goals, I have mentors, I am doing my Masters while working full time. These are things I have put in place, things I am trying to achieve, but filling out some paper work for my boss was not part of it.
Not sure why I put this up, probably because he wants our first monthly meeting about my five year plan to start this week and I haven't filled out the document. At this stage I am contemplating saying I want to become a circus performer in the next five years, and asking if he has contacts at Cirque de Solei or someone to help with my juggling.
