In 2021 I was offered to work for our Singapore branch (I am based in Manila) because I met the “standard” of a tier 1 location, but due to covid restrictions they were forced to keep me here in Manila. I liked the job and I was friends with everyone whom I worked with so I agreed, since it was also a promotion. Unfortunately for me, I got caught between power trippings of my bosses in sg and mnl, as they would often fight over who gets to give me work. My post was the first of it’s kind, a hybrid post working for tier 1 but under tier 3. This caused me a lot of stress because they can’t seem to agree on the specifics of the post, and it hurt my rating because I was to be rated against employees from Manila and my local boss is arguing he doesn’t see much of what I do to give me a “fair rating”.
Fast forward to September 2022, my boss from SG flew over and I asked him if he could relocate me. I told him all the challenges I was facing and he was keen on moving me over to SG. He started the process of budget applications and several other approvals as it would take months to get the budget approved. A month later he quit to start a new job and left it to my now offshore boss.
In December 2022 the budget got approved and I was told I needed to undergo an interview process as formality, so I went and waited til January 2023, HR told me they went with another candidate (which was my teammate already situated in SG). I was very confused about what happened and they just told me they used the budget to move people around. It would not make sense to fly me over when there are people in the team with more tenure than me but lower title (I was moving laterally) so they said they are going to promote two people before restarting the process for me. I generally agreed as these people are way better than me in our process.
Now this month they told me the budget request got rejected because our company is undergoing budget cuts. They then told me I could apply directly, basically cover the cost myself. I told them I would think about it because SG is a lot more expensive than PH and I wanted to know what I was getting myself into. After some research I told them okay I would like to try. But all they are telling me is it is a tedious process and the company needs accreditation that would take months. I did my research and learned that i could skip this process and apply directly but they don’t seem to be very supportive of it. They keep ending the meetings with “we’d LOVE to have you over, we will see what we can do next year.”
I am very upset because I feel like a discount employee doing SG job for PH pay, I told them I want to stop doing this hybrid nonsense and they were like “let us find a way so you can do your job 100% locally.” Wtf I want to quit my job immediately so I won’t have to help them in our coming annual peak which stretches for 3 months. But that would mean my teammates would suffer but my beef is with our boss and not with them.
Maybe our company is going poor 🤷️
