So I've been working at this coffee shop for about 8 months give or take. Recently I've noticed the hours I'm working and the hours on my paystubs weren't matching.
I decide to check my time cards in depth and come to find out they've been taking away 30 mins of my hours worked DAILY for “unpaid breaks”. Problem is, I have never gotten an actual break since working there.
The store is usually dead so we get quite a bit of time to “relax”, but if a customer comes in, we are ALWAYS on duty no matter what we're doing. I was okay with not being able to leave the building for breaks because I assumed the time we would sit down was paid. My bosses instead decided to (Without notifying us) take away 30 mins from EVERY 5+ hour shift we've worked. I've had days where I only got to sit and eat for 5 minutes during a 7 hour shift, but was okay with it because I've been unaware of what they're doing.
I found out today that it's been going on since February and we're all pissed but haven't confronted them yet. Is there any action we can take to reclaim our unpaid wages? Thanks in advance.
