So my brother is working road construction for the summer and his boss is having him work around 80 hours a week and he seems to be getting pretty sleep deprived. He operates equipment all day and I feel like it’s pretty dangerous to have employees do that. Are there any laws I can talk to him about? The other day he got home at 1 am and had to be in at 5am the next morning. He says the most sleep he’s gotten a night this week is 5 hours. He isn’t just making this up either, he leaves to work before me (I get up at 5am) and the earliest I’ve seen him get home is 9pm, not giving him any time to eat, shower, etc.
I’m worried about his safety though. Surely there’s something to protest workers against sleep deprivation working large equipment without just getting him fired?
