I work in a restaurant which provides and encourages its employees to write down their thoughts, feeling and reactions to each shift on special provided forms. These are read, and, often time, the suggestions from these surveys are implemented. It's a worksheet with questions like “I entered work feeling _, and left work feeling __ because _____.” These questionnaires have always been described by management as “safe”. A place for honest feedback etc. I have used these many times in the past to air complaints in a constructive, respectful, but pointed way.
The reason for this post is that I filled out one of these after a private party I worked on Friday night which was extended for an hour beyond it's registered end time (a paid extension by host), and then extended again (without payment by the host, at simply manager discretion) – this resulted in 4 unhappy, arguably unfairly compensated party workers (myself one of them). I wrote a survey questioning the practice of party extension without compensation. I was upset (which I stated), but I was not rude, vulgar, or insulting .
On Monday, after arriving at work, 2 managers brought me into the office. They asked me if I was happy working there. Cited my survey. Told me policy would not change regarding parties, and then told me I should take the day off to think about whether or not I was happy working there. (After I paid for parking, came in at my scheduled time etc.)
I'm kind of at a loss. I find this behavior to be absolutely disrespectful. Fairly threatening. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to appropriately respond? (Contact HR? Contact upper management? Contact some kind of legal help?) I feel like they could have asked me to stay home, if they felt I was unfit to come in. I feel like my schedule is a contract they violated with this action.
