So let me give you some context. In my area there is a bus line during summer and autumn that you can ride for free. It's mainly for old people who want to travel or for those who can't afford normal public transport. It's very popular and they also transport bikes and wheelchairs if needed and for some people this is the only way to leave their home for a day. My mother is slowly getting older and has issues walking long distances so she kept complaining to me lately how she can't ride the bus anymore because apparently it's canceled.
I thought why would anyone cancel a free bus line so I checked their website. Every 2 days they update the news and apologize again that the bus line can't run because they need bus drivers. On the weekend the busses magically run again so my theory is they are taking school bus drivers and force them to work on the weekends too. And today I checked again only to see the passive aggressive message “We STILL need bus drivers otherwise we can't operate…”
I went the extra mile and gave them a call, pretending to be a bus driver. I asked them what their hourly rate is and they told me that since the bus line is free, all bus drivers are volunteers and don't get paid.
Are you kidding me? The bus line operates over 12 hours a day no wonder people would rather drive a school bus.
It sucks for the people in this town that rely on this bus line so they can leave their homes once in a while but this company doesn't deserve any bus drivers. Pay them at least something.
