I'm a Boomer. And I apologize for our world view.
• Housing prices are declining; becoming less unaffordable is bad for the economy.
• Wages are going up, but higher wages for workers harms the economy.
• Credit card debt is increasing, but people spending more than they comfortably can is good for the economy.
• Hurricanes and floods are increasing, but rebuilding after a natural disaster boosts the Gross National Product, which is good for the economy.
• There is an anti-consumerism movement, but people using fewer resources and reducing their impact on the environment is bad for the economy.
• Overpopulation could devour the planet, but declining birth rates is bad for the economy.
• We desperately need to cut emissions, but only if it is profitable, or else it would be bad for the economy.
And meanwhile affluent retirees are jetting all over the world enjoying their golden years, defending their dividends, and complaining that “no one wants to work any more.”
No wonder so many kids are in despair- and a lot of them hate Boomers.
