Call to Action: let’s “bully” some politicians into discussing a General Strike on a public forum

TLDR: does anyone want to join me in spamming AOC and Bernie about a General Strike on social media? More likely that they’d feel the need to address the topic if hundreds or thousands of us bring it up simultaneously. Most likely, they’ll spout the same response many here already have: there’s no union power, you have to organize your own workplace, etc. but this coming from two of the most followed Dem accounts might actually push these things into actually happening I’ve never spoken this out loud, but if I could have one wish granted, it would be to hack AOC’s Twitter, type “It’s time for a General Strike” and send it out as a tweet. Change her password so she couldn’t immediately delete it. Millions of people would see it, including union accounts. I’ve never spoken this out loud, but if I could have one wish granted, it would be to hack AOC’s Twitter, type “It’s time for a General Strike” and send it out as a tweet. Change her password so she couldn’t immediately delete it.

Millions of people would see it, including union accounts. Those of us who have already been talking about a General strike for months/years would finally have a concrete catalyst to point to.

Republicans would be outraged and would write op-eds/go on talk shows to furiously denigrate the idea, furthering the reach of the concept of general strikes in public discourse, sowing seeds in the minds of the right.

Sure, chaos would ensue, but personally I’d prefer that over the mind-numbing complacency we all seem to be getting comfortable with.

Anyway, I know this wish will never come true, but what about the second-best idea: spam their social media accounts with hundreds or thousands of mentions of a general strike to hopefully force their hands into at least addressing the idea publicly?

I’m pretty much expecting 70% of replies to be “boooo social media organizing never works, I’d rather criticize your idea and feel superior in my knowledge of union history/Marxist theory than send a single tweet” but personally I’m pretty tired of seeing a bunch of complaints about capitalism day in and day out without any concrete calls to action, particularly when this one would require a simple “meh, it probably won’t work but what’s the harm in trying?” and writing a single tweet or comment on Instagram
