Can an employer legally threaten to fire you over a medical condition in the US?

Back story: I have medical issues that prevent me from being reliable full time atm. I’m currently seeing a doctor to get these issues under control but also currently have no health coverage. I initially put in my 2 week notice back in early October as I could not realistically meet the manager’s expectations due to my medical issues and the GM (SM) talked me out of it saying to stick around until I have another job and that they are very understanding of medical issues. At that time, I hadn’t gotten an appointment set up (had to fight for 3 months to get in to a doctor because they wouldn’t accept a referral from the hospital). So once I had an appointment, I agreed to stick around as long as they were willing to work with me.

Fast forward to this week when the same manager told me that if I had called out again that I wouldn’t have a job anymore. I understand being frustrated. Believe me; I’m just as frustrated about these issues as I said they prevent me from being reliable full time. I called out Wednesday due to being in so much pain that I hadn’t even been able to sleep the night prior because of it.

So I’m not making excuses here because I understand calling out hurts the store but I drive for a living; I’m not getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while having pains to the point that it hurts to breathe. Can I do anything here in a right to work/at will state? Here, they can fire you for any reason but wondering if medical i reasons are federally protected and if so, who do I contact?
