i (F) am a senior engineer at my company and recently found out that a junior engineer (M) has the same salary as me (we don't have any other form of comp). we were at the same level when he was hired and he was making x salary. 6 months later i get a double promotion to the senior role and start earning that same x salary.
i found out about our salaries recently by looking at the H1B database. i told my manager (F) that i felt that this was unfair (not only am i 2 levels above the junior engineer, the different amount of value we bring in terms of individual contribution is very clear and documented, me bringing more value that is) and that it felt like gender bias (we are a small team: 3F + 1M). my manager told me that it has nothing to do w gender and is due to talent acquisition salary bands vs talent retention bands, but would “try” to see what she could do about increasing my comp. i think thats a load of BS. i am thinking about bring this to HR/the DE&I dept, do i have a good case?
