Can my employer force me to use sick time to cover forced OT?

As the title says my workplace is currently on forced OT due to staffing issues. All of us are working 60-72hrs a week until the company hires more people. Because of this, most of us only get 24hrs off per week to do anything. I had to call out yesterday for personal reasons but my boss is telling me he is going to charge me 12 hours of my sick time for the call out. Is this legal? Can he really charge me 12 hours of sick time to cover 12 hours of OT. I should also add I’m a federal contractor in Massachusetts and we are required to have 7 days (56 hours total) of sick time per year. If he takes 12 each time I’d be falling short of that 7 days by a lot. Tried posting in legal advice but only one comment. Figured I’d try here…
