I'm not even talking about shitty fast food or retail. Where I live minimum wage is $7.25 and today I was interviewed by a company that offered me $23/hr on the spot. I didn't notice any red flags, I will admit that the company was kinda intimidating but the manager I spoke to was so laid back. We talked about our personal lives through most of it but she kept going on about how they kept being ghosted for interviews or the people they interviewed wouldn't show up for their first day of work like….this is ALOT of money I don't get it. Even the job description was just placing orders and doing basic call center work the first year. Benefits started day one and they even offered paid mental health days. Hell, they even told me since the company is international I can move to another country and work at a different office if a position opens up.
I got a call from another company I interviewed with offering me $18 and I explained I had to pass up the job because of this other company's offer and they were really nice and understood and she told me she would do the same but even she was like man it's so hard to find work we raised our wages but nobody is applying I really hope you consider us in the future if this doesn't work out.
Every where I go now I see signs for $17+ an hour and indeed has hundreds of jobs listed, decent jobs with companies I'm familiar with who offer alot of benefits. Where I live I rent a 3 bedroom house for $875 and cost of living is pretty low. It has rose a bit the past few years but you can still easily find a house to rent for less than $1500…. So what gives????
I understand people passing up fast food and retail 100% but for these other companies….I really don't get it. It's to the point most aren't even drug testing anymore because they can't get the people they need. Companies that used to require a bachelor's are dropping that requirement. Can someone elaborate on why this is happening????
