Can the company ask for their money back if they forgot to fire you?

I've never heard this happening before but what happened to my friend was The company scheduled a hr meeting with my friend where they informed him that he was terminated A week later he still has access to email, company resources and got his normal paycheck today My other friend who this company fired in the same way lost access to everything within a day I've seen another post on here recently where – https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/z4jb3o/quit_still_getting_paid_should_i_tell_them/ OP voluntarily left but the company still kept paying them The general consensus there was that the company can demand money back from OP but in the case of my friend, can they do the same or not because the company screwed up the termination/didn't actually terminate him?
