Can they fire me? Best way to handle a situation

Hey guys, I'm in a small company in VIC, Australia and my issue is recently they've basically started to expect that I have 24/7 availability and even though it isn't in my contract, told me they expect me to work on weekends for at least an hour. I want to leave this job – but they've done a lot for me in the time I've been with them so I'm wondering about the best way to go about it… I can either find another job and then just give them 4 weeks notice when I have secured the new job – which seems like a slight 'fuck you' to management – or I can let them know ahead of time as a professional courtesy that I'm going to be moving on from this industry and that I will give my notice when I have secured another position. Is this stupid…

Is this stupid though? What's to stop them from just replacing me while I'm job searching? Do I even owe them anything at this point?

I could really use advice on the best way you think to proceed, especially as they hired my partner into the company recently and he hasn't even been offered an official contract yet (he's currently an intern).

Any advice is appreciated, thanks
