Let me start off by saying I do like my boss but I have been in my position for less than a year and I have been asked 5+ times to chip in for some stupid gift. First it was “National bosses day” (I’m sure some boss somewhere got a nice undeserved raise for that), then it was a birthday gift, then it was Christmas, then it was my bosses 7 year work anniversary, then it was my BOSSES BOSS’S anniversary and on and on and on. I’m just tired of it. These people make 5x at least more than I do. We bought my bosses boss a stupid expensive pen with his name on it for his anniversary and he looked about as enthused as a kid getting an apple on Halloween. We do chip ins for lunches on peoples birthdays which is fine but why do I need to buy my boss a gift? I only get a birthday card and I don’t even want that. People have different money situations and life situations. Plus it creates a toxic environment where suck ups can do this for attention and if I don’t chip in I look like a negative asshole. My boss bought me a small gift for Christmas which was nice but I don’t even want it if it means we can stop all this. I was then asked to chip in to buy a gift for her. I thought usually bosses will buy a Christmas gift for employees to thank them for the hard work over the year and they make way more than us but as soon as that happens the kiss asses start waving the money tray around to get a gift that is twice as expensive for the person who makes way more than I do. Then we did secret Santa and of course I got my boss lol I know this is a long winded rant but I’m just tired of it.
