I work in accounting and my controller left a few weeks ago. We discussed my July vacation, told me it was approved but failed to report to HR because she thought she had time. To be fair my company requires 1 month notice for anything 2+ days. So, I reach out to our treasurer who is now my boss, because we are apparently not hiring another controller. She tells me she can approve it but only if I get coverage..here's the kicker: I'm the only AR for 4 companies! AP can't do my job, and neither can my operations manager. Wtf am I supposed to do? Never take vacation? Why am I in charge of covering my days off? Isn't that her job now since we have no controller?
I did ask her who I could get to cover me since this feels like a slap in the face. She knows I have no one else. When she takes vacation, no one covers for her, we all have to wait until she returns to have our issues taken care of. I'm waiting for her response but I'm thinking this is it, this is the straw that broke the camel's back. Not sure what replies I can have ready for her. Usually I'm the one giving advice (having had an HR background) and now I'm at a loss for words. I think my anger is just not allowing me to process anything.
