I work in social services (with folks experiencing homelessness, etc). It’s stressful work, and lately our entire staff has been exhausted and burnt out. Our CEO (who makes at least ten times what I do) sent a long email today addressing staff burnout and general stress. I read through the whole thing, thinking surely a break must be coming! This person has the power to give us all a paid day off, a holiday, a bonus! Surely no adult would send a group of other adults a lengthy email telling us to “trust each other” and “breathe”…friends, that’s exactly what this email was. No increased pay, no time off, simply a novel of an email telling us to “pull together.” I am still poor, still stressed, but also now angry and feeling like my intelligence has been insulted. Management moves like this are so condescending and frustrating! I would love…

10 years with this retail company and I find out that I'm getting cheated out of paid time off because I've given my two-weeks notice. HR told it to me straight: since I'm ending my employment ai won't have access to my PTO. Today when I appealed to a corporate HR person they told me that maybe I could have taken the time off for the (now 2) days I have left. Too little, too late. and now I'm angry knowing that the system is built to only benefit the employer. There is no benefit to the employee. I'm staying out of goodwill and because I care about my subordinates (who would have a worse time if I just quit). This policy would encourage people to take all their time off and then quit after, and since I took the high road (and didn't know ahead of time) I lose…
Boss says “that's too bad sorry to see you go”. Calls me 2 day after to see why. Now his boss is asking me why I am leaving and I told him that I've asked twice and never got a response. Now they're scrambling to get me to stay.
Midlevel manager in a department of two. I report to the president. I am FT hourly and hired less and was to go up after a year. It did and now they reduced it… I have not had any trouble at work (that I know of!!) and our HR and payroll is a single person who has no backbone and just landed the position after shadowing the previous person…. My initial thought: Email HR/payroll and ask directly why this happened and how they plan on rectifying it.. thoughts??? I anticipate some bullshit answer, but I want to be prepared.
I planned to take leave this friday to take a trip with my family to celebrate mom and dad's anniversary. My manager already knew this since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, a deployment is scheduled for the same day as my leave and it cannot be postponed. I messaged my manager asking who can take this up from my team and he replied that I should figure it out for myself. I work as a data engineer in a multinational company but our team has downsized from 20 to 6 people within the span of a year. I work alone since my whole team left the company and only have an associate to support me during times of need. Tldr; important project deployment coincides with the day of my planned leave. Manager asked me to figure it out but have no one on the team to support me. How…
I've been at my current job since December 2021. The pay isn't the best, but my benefits are really good. Back in January, I was made aware of a tumor in my jaw by my dentist. Biopsy confirmed its a cancerous tumor, which I had about a 3% chance of being diagnosed with. Since then I've been seeing various doctors coming up with a game plan to remove the tumor and reconstruct my jaw. My surgery has now been scheduled for April 21st, and I will have to be out of work for 6 weeks. I informed my supervisor who then told me I'd need to speak with HR to apply for FMLA. I went to see HR yesterday, just to be told that I need to be employed with them for a full year to qualify for FMLA. They told me I could apply for discretionary leave, which means…
