Should I get paid for a work breakfast?

I am a student and also work for a small IT company that is growing quite fast. The boss can't be in 2 places at once and has asked me if I would like to go to a breakfast with other industry people, ISP providers and vendors… that sort of thing. I am to wear uniform and was told that I would be representing the company. The restaurant I will be going to is an hour drive from my house and I have to be there by 7:30am. I have already agreed to the breakfast but there has been no talk of being paid and I'm not expecting to be paid for it at this point. I was wondering if being paid for these sorts of things is normal or should I just be grateful I'm getting a free meal? Edit for grammar

Unpopular opinion: small businesses are facing a lot of the same problems we are.

I saw a post about a small business going out of business because they can't find employees. Don't get me wrong they probably were paying minimum wage and that's wrong but they also likely have skyrocketing rents, raw material prices skyrocketing and their personal expenses are the same as ours. Basically the big companies such up all the cheap goods and set low wages and small business takes crap for being stuck just like us. I work in a not super small factory and people complain our prices went up but we are having rmtrouble getting raw materials in at any cost. Yes we have profits but they actually pay well and just have higher costs of production.

The cheapest pre-sliced deli turkey at my US grocery store is now $7.29 per pound. Is this how it’s going to be for the rest of my life?

Can my employer give me a pay cut without telling me? I was making $17 an hour and just checked my last three checks and I’m now getting paid at $15.33

I didn’t think anything of my last three checks and their amount because I only went in three days one week and again three days for the week after and three days last week.

Accepted is my favorite antiwork movie

I love how the characters in that movie are fighting for the right to explore the world on their own terms and create their own learning experience. I wish someday to afford that life of aimless wandering, discovery, and friendship.

Is my boss breaking the law?

So i am currently employed by a self proclaimed small business. I have reason to believe that the owner is lying that he employes less that 26 workers. With him claiming this he is allowed to pay us below minimum wage. This was fine with me from the beginning. But recently in the beginning of January i got covid. I was unable to work for about 2 weeks. With me working in California, covid pay was retroactively approved from Jan 1 and onwards. But now he doesn't have to give me covid pay because he claims less than 26 employees. The main reason i believe he is lying is because he owns 9 retail locations. The one I work at has 5 employees. It just doesn't add up. Another major issue i have is that he is currently recording video and audio. He never asked us for consent. I never…

BEST FEELING EVER!

Submitted my resignation this week! I received a job offer for something out of my career field but for more money, less days and I enjoy doing more than the job I'm currently at. I'm tired of wearing myself so thin for a toxic company that doesn't care. Management tried to convince me to stay longer to help train employees. But would not offer more money…… best of luck! While I feel bad the other employees on the already understaffed shift will have to work more shifts most likely, I am relieved to know there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!!
