Hello,
I'm in a spot I've never been in before and wondering what's the best option. I've been working at this place and got signed for 17 an hour, I couldn't afford to keep looking without having any income. Fast forward to me learning about how awful management is at this place, my supervisor will just ignore me if I ask a question they don't want to answer.
We get a new guy last week. He and I were talking and I asked him how much they started him at, he told me 18 an hour but he is with a temp service so the company just sees they have to pay the temp service a certain amount. I'm not making 18 and found it strange that I was training someone who is getting paid more than me for the same job. Given things I have experienced with this company before, I'm not surprised.
I go to hr to see if I could get a raise because they were willing to pay that much for the same job. That's when I learned about the irony of calling such a soulless position human resources. She told me that wasn't right and he should just be making 17. I never mentioned to her that the new guy was from a temp service. She tells me she's gonna look into over the weekend.
Come Monday and she comes to where I'm at ,which is rare in the first place, to tell me that she looked and he's actually getting paid 17 an hour and that he must be lying about it.
I was thinking about that encounter througout the rest of the day and realized something. I thought about what either party has to gain from lying to me. The company gets cheap labor or the new guy gets nothing from lying to me. Taking that into consideration I decided to go talk to the new guy again to tell him what hr said. He told me he was in a temp service and gets paid by the temp service, it wouldnt make sens3 for hr to know how much the temp service is paying him.
I asked him politely what he would gain from lying to me after. He couldnt think of anything. He told me when he gets paid next hes gonna show the pay stub to show he wasnt lying. Later that day I was doing my thing and a thought hit me out of nowhere. HR never said anything about him being in a temp service…..
I have caught them lying through there teeth to me. My immediate reaction is to go to hr to bitch about it. I thought about the repercussions of an encounter and decided it probably not going to end well for me since there's nothing I can do about them lying.
I'm thinking I just look for a new job while still working here. Once I find a place I'll just leave without saying a word to management.
What are your thoughts on the matter and is there any insight that I might be missing here?
