Chronic job hoppers of anti work has the past ever caught up with you?

Quit my third job this year and my father said I’m going to start getting a bad reputation to which I replied there are thousands of companies and I haven’t told the truth on my resume in years, and that it doesn’t matter, am I wrong? Has anyone ever lost out on an opportunity because of a past employer? I know it’s probably something that’s happened before, but I’m just doubtful that it happens frequently with the current demand for work.
