Had a buddy that called in a fair amount. Our place resets the counter on the year, so the first 3 call ins after Jan 1st are protected. Buddy calls in one day to let management know he will be late, and they say he cant be late, he either shows up on time, or misses the whole shift. So he missed the shift. Then he was fired for that. My question is, can they do that? like is that against his rights as a worker for them to bypass the protection? or just unethical? or neither?
Would you raise this concern to higher management or leave it be?
