Company giving 20 year top performing employee a hard time about working remote

I was baffled when I heard this. So one of the top performers on our team that’s been with the company for 20 years needed to move due to family reasons. We’re all hybrid, 2 days required in office but some people got hired remotely during covid and some people moved during covid and were allowed to work fully remote. A few months ago they changed this, and said if you move don’t expect to be able to stay with the company. So she told the company she has to move regardless, and would like to stay with the company if they would let her work remote. It would be a devastating ting loss to our team if she left, and still they wouldn’t budge for months. She finally got them to agree after fighting with them for a long time. My boss said to all of us, don’t expect…

It would be a devastating ting loss to our team if she left, and still they wouldn’t budge for months. She finally got them to agree after fighting with them for a long time. My boss said to all of us, don’t expect to get the same accommodations as she did.

I just find this ridiculous. We already have multiple fully remote people on our team, our job can be done 100% remote and that was proven during covid when we were fully remote. The company was really willing to lose one of their top employees, who’s very loyal to the company over her not being able to come to the office. Like the fuck?

After I heard about that, and the fact they are upping our in office days to 3, I’m looking for a new job. It’s a shame because this job was perfect before they started forcing us all into the office against our will or we will be fired. Now we even need to take a sick day if we can’t go into the office on the required days, which I find ridiculous. There’s been so many times where I have a lingering cough or I have a bad cold but I’m still okay enough to just work from home instead of dragging my sick self to the office. Now on those days I need to force myself to come in sick or use my very little PTO to stay home and fall behind on my work. I just don’t understand how that’s productive at all.

Anyway just wanted to rant. If you made it this far thanks for listening!
