Company suspended my direct deposit without my knowledge or permission…

I resigned a week ago because I got a job offer and they were willing to have me start the same day, and I returned my key that afternoon after I finished at the new job. I didn't know that my information was changed and that my check wasn't posted until my husband went to the grocery store and got declined at checkout today. He stopped by the restaurant to pick up my check and they said that I had to sign a piece of paper “confirming I got my last check” and they sent it home with him. I have never had this happen before, and I've been working since I was in high school. Every company I've ever worked for just left my DD set up and we parted ways without all this extra bullshit. Is this normal, and I've just gotten lucky, or are they being petty?…

Is this normal, and I've just gotten lucky, or are they being petty? The “document” is very simple, and honestly looks like they threw it together on Microsoft Word in about a minute. I'm beyond frustrated because this is the second worst company I've ever worked for, I just wanted to be done with them.
