Considering quitting my job – got called lazy for not having super speed and at least 4 arms.

Dunkin is my second job, because teaching does not pay enough to cover my student loans. I work 10-15 hours a week at Dunkin every week, mostly closing shifts where it's just me and one other person. The manager mentioned to me once that they get a lot of complaints about the speed of service at night. I mentioned that it DOES get busy after 4 PM, contrary to popular belief people DO like to eat food and drink coffee throughout the day 🤷‍️ I was told we'd be getting no help because the work hours need to go to the morning. Cue a couple months later. I've been telling the manager that my usual ONE COWORKER has started to leave early by half an hour or more, leaving me to sweep, mop, count the registers, finish dishes, etc in addition to serving customers right up until close.

The manager appeared on my side and said that that's “crazy”, that action will be taken, and that I should just do the best that I can before clocking out at my scheduled time.

Guess it's my fault for not clarifying what “doing my best” is?? I don't know. I just figured based on common sense, that if my dickbag coworker has left the dishes undone and the ovens uncleaned, meanwhile my assigned jobs are sweeping and mopping the dining room, that the openers would rather have the dishes done so they can actually get the store running on time. This was a mistake.

Got called lazy on Thursday night for “slacking on my job assignments”, manager told me that “nothing is ever done” from my list of tasks in the morning. I again pointed out that (a) my coworker is leaving early, check his fucking time card, and (b) when he leaves I'm not only doing two people's worth of cleaning but also running two registers (lobby and drive thru) because I'm not allowed to lock the doors early. Got told that I'm making excuses and that I “just need to focus more”. I ended up getting so mad that I left early myself that day, and now it's Saturday and I'm still so pissed that it's actually affecting my mood.

Basically just wanted to rant here that it fucking sucks to be told I'm lazy when I go in and bust my ass every shift. I even told my manager to check the cameras, and he confessed that the cameras don't record anything, which I'd sort of suspected. I really do need the money, and nothing stresses me out more than scrambling for a job, but it seems like no matter what I do here, it comes down to not being physically capable of doing two people's worth of closing tasks on time. It might actually be better to skip some bill payments for a couple months and put things on my credit card so I can get out of this hellhole and find something actually worthwhile.
