This may not be the right sub for this post, but I'm considering quitting my job in CBD manufacturing over safety concerns.
We use a variety of chemicals in the process of making CBD distillate and crystals. We are not validating that our products are free of residual solvents before shipping them to our customers. I have informed my boss, sales team and CEO that this practice concerns me.
We have lost several clients over residual solvents over the past few months.
Now my boss and CEO is instructing me to spray a new supposedly less toxic chemical on the product to mask the residual chemicals in the CBD. I am concerned about the people that may unknowingly be ingesting this product and I am concerned for myself for being exposed to these chemicals.
I try to take safety precautions and wear a respirator but the room we work in does not have fume hoods and it smells awful when we use the vacuum ovens to purge out the majority of the chemicals from the product. There is also equipment in the room that gets very very hot, and we've already had one open fire occur.
I make good money, but I'm worried about being exposed to so many chemicals everyday. The chemicals in question are pentane and heptane.
If anyone has any advice or background in handling these chemicals in large quantities itd be much appreciated. Maybe I'm worrying over nothing but something about this whole situation seems terribly wrong.
