I work security, I am contracted out to companies, mostly government buildings. I was moved from my position and they said they would have a new one for me the next day. Well it took over a week to get me a new position so I didn't get paid for a whole week. Would I be eligible for unemployment or anything to help? And every time they move me my pay rate changes, which is stressful not knowing when your pay is going to change or not. I've varied from $16hr to 19hr up and down.
Now the new position they moved me to is fine except a few things, 1. I don't get a parking spot, I have to park at a grocery store a few blocks away. Not a huge deal but it sucks when it rains, and the parking lot is 80% empty so I don't understand why they want me to pay for a spot. 2. They were told I have long hair and a beard before I was hired. They have complained to me and to my boss about this. They said I can't wear a hat which I think is dumb but I understand and comply. But they also want me to pull my hair back and wear a hair tie. Which I don't understand, my hair is not in my face at all and women in the office have long hair and don't have to do this. Seems weird for a man with long hair to be a problem in 2023.
3. The second day I was there they contacted my boss about “a hygiene issue”. They told me about it and I asked them to explain and they said they couldn't. I'm a very clean person, shower daily, Deodorant, never wear the same clothes, my beard isn't a mess it's trimmed and cleaned, same with my hair. so I was very confused by what they could possibly be talking about. I have asked my boss to talk to them and he said he hasn't figured anything out.
4. Uniforms, I have a security uniform, they don't want me to wear that at this site. Perfectly fine with me. So I wear a clean plain shirt and black pants. They said it's not business casual enough, she said this to me while wearing a tank top and jean jacket. I don't want to spend money on fancy clothes to wear to a job were no one sees me. We aren't open to the public so who do I need to impress? This one isn't a huge deal of course just something that I found kind of weird. Most people in the office seem to just wear a T-shirt but it's a problem if I wear a plain shirt?
5. I have therapy once or twice a week. I have informed them on certain days I need to leave an hour early for therapy. (Side note, my last contract ended at 4pm giving me time to go without leaving early. Here I was told it ends at 5 after a few days they changed it to 5:15.) But I have tried to inform my bosses of this and get no response so I will just continue to let them know and leave when I need to with or without them giving permission. In my opinion my mental health is much more important than a job where I sit and do nothing 90% of the time.
Am I the one being ridiculous or does some of this seem a bit weird to anyone else?
