Cool Coworker became not-so-cool New Supervisor

I had this coworker. They helped me learn my job and I really appreciated them for it. I reached out to them whenever I had any stumbling blocks and they helped guide me. Then my supervisor got a new position and that coworker became my new supervisor. I couldn’t have been happier. Our relationship was great and their wealth of knowledge and willingness to share it was appreciated to the max. I was so happy it wasn’t someone else because I thought they would make the perfect replacement for my old supervisor. The new supervisor even said: Other than me being a different person, I’m going to keep everything the same on our team. Then within just a month of supervising, I already had my first falling out with them. The thing that started it all was their miscommunication of a deadline that they magically expected me to just know…

The thing that started it all was their miscommunication of a deadline that they magically expected me to just know (actually a lack of communication from them but whatever) that somehow became ONLY my fault. They came at me for it and the worse part is that we were still CLEARLY within the expected completion window. 🤦‍️ Then they showed no accountability for unnecessarily approaching me in that manner and made no mention of things they did wrong or could have done better.

Outside of that encounter, they implemented a bunch of unnecessary fillers in our team meetings. Our meetings went from a quick and easy coverage of things we needed to know to including a whole agenda just for fillers/ice breakers/unnecessary bullsh*t. The latter lasting even longer than the important part of the meeting itself.

To top it off, they started showing signs of micromanagement by counting our completed assignments and needing to be notified of being away from our desk. Everyone is on track to be amazing at being a slave here so no need to watch us like that.

In retrospect, I probably should have been more aware of how it might have turned out. They had a really frantic style of work that was funny, weird, and relatable as a coworker. However, that frantic style is horrible as a supervisor. It adds unneeded stress to everyone else.

I’ve been blessed with having amazing supervisors so I guess it’s about time I had one I didn’t like. Just sad that it was someone I DID like before, but at the end of the day, work is still work. So, fudge all this. This job quickly went from the best job I’ve ever had to me now being open for new positions.
