Corporate Employees Working Retail for the Holidays?

So I recently started a corporate, work from home, marketing position at a retail company. They have a policy where they ask corporate employees to come into the retail locations to lend a hand during busy times (AKA the holidays). Is this normal? I’ve never worked corporate retail before, so I’m a little confused. Also, I’m in marketing and have had no training on what I would be doing. It seems like it’s not strictly mandatory but there’s pressure on everyone to ‘help out’. This was not in the job description either.
