I work FT for a company that has stores all over and they basically control what the managers do. Recently management was given a daily hrs budget for employees. And this week we were told if management continues to be over budget on hours corporate will take over scheduling.
It's ridiculous. Their “budget” is barely enough to keep the required number of people per department.
My store is unique in that we're not traditionally understaffed. My manager is a good boss and we have plenty of employees. Enough to be comfortably staffed each day.
Example is my store has 2 different departments. To be comfortable we'd have 5 people on each shift. Two per department, one person floating around doing extra stuff, helping where needed, covering breaks, etc. The budget from corporate allows for a max of 2-3 per shift. That's simply not enough. It's exhausting.
Top it all off we have half the staff saying they're going to quit because they're not getting enough hours. Even FT people are only getting 30-ish hours a week.
Not sure if there is a point to this… just venting I guess. Before corporate started bitching about hour budgets work was fine, busy but doable. Fun even sometimes…I like my coworkers. Now it's fucked.
