Corporate killed any enjoyment I had in programming

I was hired as a front end developer for this company, working on software for the semiconductor industry. Little did I know it ended up being stuck in 800k lines of legacy, ancient C++ written by 50 year old socially handicapped seniors. I’m talking about functions of 2000 lines, creating 23 classes, variables that have no naming conventions, often just single letters, the works. ‘Just include these 27 files for every new source file you make, it just doesn’t work properly otherwise’. Combined with deadlines that are tomorrow, but only told about them yesterday, because sales didn’t bother to inform you 3 weeks ago when they promised the customer. Just done.
