Today I resigned from my position with a large fortune 50 corporation. During my meeting with my supervisor, when discussing if there was anything that could be done to retain me, he stated that I would be required to pay back tuition assistance I’ve received from my employer, which totals approximately $2,100. I didn’t appreciate his tone; he kept stating that he would “hate to see me have to repay that should I leave.”
However, I in the past I asked HR several times if I would be required to repay tuition assistance if I were to leave the company before finishing my education, and I was told that there was not a current process to recover tuition payments and that I would not be required to pay back the reimbursement. I have this in writing in an email dated October of 2021. Do I have any sort of case here?
