Coworker wanted to reduce her schedule by one day, was denied, transferred and ended up quitting

Hello r/antiwork, here with my first story of a floral wholesaler that I work for. This place isn’t the worst job I’ve ever had, and honestly it’s my favorite job I’ve had; but a lot of it is due to my specific department being ran by a someone who’s actually competent. Anyway, the coworker mentioned in the title worked in the sales department. The sales department is so integral to the running of this place that any huge decisions and asks are ran through the general manager of the wholesaler (who is the brother of one of the owners, a married couple) instead of going through the department head of the sales team, who herself is admittedly a problem but I digress. This GM is an absolute joke, he doesn’t do anything, is completely out of touch with how this place even works, and will take months to make simple…

This GM is an absolute joke, he doesn’t do anything, is completely out of touch with how this place even works, and will take months to make simple decisions to the point that these simple decisions start to cause issues that cost the company time and money, and frustrates employees to no end.

This coworker, let’s call her J, asked the general manager to cut down her schedule down one day because she just wanted to. The general manager basically told her it wasn’t happening, they need her so so much and losing her for one day was just not going to be possible. Her response was to threaten to quit. The GM quickly backtracked and offered to transfer her out of the sales department into our fulfillment department that is much more relaxed and where the department head actually has power over their department.

She took the transfer, and worked in her new department for a week and quit by just not showing up to work anymore. Everyone in sales and the GM was very surprised by the decision for her to just quit after being denied a cut in her schedule over one. Fucking. Day.

This is just a small part of the issues of this place including not firing people over sexual harassment, having our HR person be engaged to my department head and abusing the power the two of them have over other people, the GM being a man with a law degree who can’t handle any amount of pressure, and getting scolded for using our biggest boxes for packing orders frivolously when the company makes well over a million dollars a year.

Tl;dr: coworker wanted to reduce her schedule by one day and was told she was too valuable and they couldn’t do it, only for her to threaten to quit, and then being allowed to transfer to another department, only for her to quit after a week at the new department.
