Hello!
So a few weeks ago I rang a customer up for 76 dollars and when I swiped the card the transaction went through on the register but the system for the credit card did not process the transaction. I didn’t know this at the time and customer had left.
I realized after the credit card machine didn’t print a receipt and let my manager know right away and she said she fixed it by having my coworker print a transaction receipt for the same amount they had rang up for a different transaction and put it in my drawer. I don’t have access to the credit card machine transaction so there was no way for me to check.
Today I was told I have I am having to cover the 76 dollars and will have it deducted from my paycheck. I was also told this happens often.
I checked the handbook and no where does it say if the drawer is short or system errors, it comes out of the cashiers wages.
I’m pretty upset because that’s a lot of money on a system error. I’ve only been at this job for about two months and this should of been brought up in training.
Anyone else experience something like this or have advice?
