I am struggling to keep up with my desk at a new job. It is most certainly a two person job, I am sending emails every 3 minutes, updating spreadsheets, answering phones in between all of that and having conversations with internal employees as well as external people who are inquiring about various things. Forget the 5 applications I have to log into everyday to approve or deny things, the actual amount of time it takes me to THINK about what I am approving or denying, and then also send out emails about these approvals or denials and then update… You guessed it, spreadsheets, lol. Not to mention the random day to day things that they throw at me, scheduling trainings, making hundreds of copies, calling people to schedule interviews
My supervisor just hired someone new to fill a vacancy, and they keep going on and on about how we're going to cross train with each other. I am fine with learning the basics of someone's job in case they are out so we can keep the department running, but I feel like my supervisor thinks this is somehow lessening the workload for both of us, when in reality it's basically doubling the amount of work for both of us. If I could, I would, but there is never a moment where I am just sitting at my desk twiddling my thumbs wondering “gee, I have a few minutes of free time, what shall I do?”
I am applying and interviewing for new jobs like a madperson right now. This is ridiculous and I am amazed that supervisors think this is like an actual management technique to implement. My older and wiser friend told me that yep, it is a solution or technique they are pushing at the supervisory level. I just hope I don't get stuck with the same BS in another office!
