My daughter’s been working at a rolled ice cream shop for the last month. I just found out tonight that the tips are kept by the owner during fall and winter and are given back to the employees during their busier season of spring and summer, since it’s an ice cream shop. She’s in highschool and this guy has like 10 employees that run his shop. It blows my mind and pisses me off that he’s taking KID’S TIPS!!! I’m actually somewhat fuming about this, but my daughter and wife are telling me to calm down because she doesn’t want to lose her job because she loves it. I’m so conflicted, and really want to call the department of labor, but don’t want to piss my wife and daughter off. Just really confused on what to do and would appreciate any advice on the situation, I may not be seeing things clearly, but can’t help but think they’re wrong and this needs to be addressed quickly. Any help would be awesome.
