Deja vu…don’t have a baby

~2 years ago my full time job fucked me by promising me an extension of unpaid maternity leave, then when I was like 34w being like lol nvm! So I quit and went to a pt job I currently hold now (taking only 1m off this time bc I don’t qualify for fmla and can’t afford more unpaid leave anyway ). Now my husband has been dealing with some job insecurity for a while. His workplace is in healthcare and their numbers have been dwindling so they’ll cut his hours at times or otherwise make him fear for his job. I’m due in 3w so today he had prepared to ask to use his PTO for 2w paternity leave. He’s put it off bc they work him so hard he literally doesn’t have a chance to speak with his boss, plus we’re honestly both skeptical they’d even honor his PTO…

He’s put it off bc they work him so hard he literally doesn’t have a chance to speak with his boss, plus we’re honestly both skeptical they’d even honor his PTO after some other unethical and actually illegal things they have done (it’s complicated, pursuing EEOC is more complicated than it seems.) they’ve been asking him to resign for weeks so they can post his job. He’s like no I need the insurance here I’m staying. His boss actually said “get insurance somewhere else. Not our problem.” But my husband is literally holding this place together, how are they treating him this way?

Today, they told him he has to resign by end of day because their quotas are down. But forcing someone to resign is illegal, right? No, not in an at will state. I told him not to resign but they’re saying he MUST and of course they won’t put anything in writing. They know he plans to take another job after I give birth and just want to stop paying him immediately. I’m cautioning him this could impact unemployment but he feels he has no choice. He ended up making the PTO request and they said “we’ll do you a favor and honor it just because we’re always so good to you.” My prediction/fear is he resigns and they say just don’t ever come in again, plus I’ve learned you’re not legally required to honor PTO.

Two employers, 2 cases of them being like hmmmm there’s a pregnancy that makes this employee inconvenient let’s basically force them out. I am about to lose my shit totally. Thanks for listening.
