Recently I’ve found myself out of work again, and decided to apply for a role with a former employer whom I left on good terms with previously, and was verbally told my HR I’d be a rehire yes should I consider returning in the future.
However, after applying online I received an automated email informing me the system had identified me as a former employee who was not eligible for rehire. Huge surprise to me since I gave official notice and never had any negative remarks, and only left due to Covid health issues (was out of work for several months awaiting the HR team to clear me to return and was in constant contact with them for the entire time).
Contacted the HR team to figure out what happened, and discovered I was marked down for “job abandonment” since I was technically on medical leave and never returned to my duties post HR approving me to return and my former leader never filing my notice to depart the company.
Was sent information to fill out and send back to the company for them to review and reconsider my rehire status.
Fast forward 5 weeks after sending that info in, and I get an automated email stating the review has been completed and I would not be reconsidered for rehire “at this time”.
Now my concern has shifted to more of, should a perspective employer attempt to contact them how could this impact any future roles I may be considered for even though I did nothing wrong.
