DM denying pto during my last month with the company

Hey all, I just wanted to get some other opinions on a situation currently happening at work. For background, I currently work for a major cell phone carrier in the US. About a month ago I interviewed for another position at a completely different company that is starting me at roughly 3x the salary plus way more benefits. I have an in with a relative at this new company so I knew it would only be a matter of time before I got the job offer so I let my current manager know that sometime soon I would be putting in my two weeks, but that I want to use my remaining week of PTO a week after my official last day in store as this company does not automatically pay out PTO when you leave even though it's earned/accrued PTO.

Last week my manager got into a motorcycle accident and is on leave, leaving him without credentials to approve payroll and time off requests so this duty has been moved to our DM while my manager is on leave. Last Friday I typed an email detailing my two week notice and that I also needed him to approve my PTO request as it was something I had discussed with my manager before his accident and already been verbally approved. Today I go into work and our assistant manager tells me that he talked to the DM about the situation and that the DM will be planning on denying my PTO. Am I the asshole for planning on not showing up my last week due to him denying me the PTO that I earned?
