Do All Employers Make False Promises To Hire New Staff?

I guess this is more of a vent, so if it's taken down I understand Essentially, I (Hotel Fronk Desk Associate) felt fortunate enough that my current employer reached out to me with a job offer because he knew me from when I worked at a sister hotel, and from what I'd known of him he had a good track record with being reliable and honest. He reached out with an offer of 1-9 shifts with just one 3-11 shift on Sunday. It was perfect, I'm trying to get away from doing these night shifts because it leaves no time for me to enjoy evenings with my girl, so I took it in a heart beat. Essentially, I (Hotel Fronk Desk Associate) felt fortunate enough that my current employer reached out to me with a job offer because he knew me from when I worked at a sister hotel, and from what I'd known of him he had a good track record with being reliable and honest. He reached out with an offer of 1-9 shifts with just one 3-11 shift on Sunday. It was perfect, I'm trying to get away from doing these night shifts because it leaves no time for me to enjoy evenings with my girl, so I took it in a heart beat.

Fast forward two months, Manager asks me if I'm willing to do an occasional 3-11 on Saturdays in case there are events that we need two people for. I tell him yes and make it clear that there's the caveat that if the events finish early or there isn't an event that night, I'm going to bow out at 9 like he hired me on for because I wouldn't be needed for the rest of the night.

Another month or two, last night, I send him a text that we have 3 check-ins and the regular 3-11 staff is there so I'm gonna head home, this is the first time I actually take up the offer we agreed on, and instead of any sort of “Okay that sounds good” I get two paragraphs about how 1-9 shifts are a luxury and not guaranteed for anyone in this industry and that if I'm scheduled 3-11 I'm required to work it.

I'm pretty upset and feel like I was lied to in the hiring process now and I'm thinking about just look for some 9-5 instead that way I can actually have evenings to myself to have fun with friends or my girl instead of just getting home and going to bed right away.
