So my title is HR Assistant and I have been at this new job for about 6 months. Like most jobs, everyone is on their P's and Q's and then you start to get an idea of the office bullshit. My coworkers and I report to the director but any time I have a question my boss “the director” refers me to the person who manages the secretaries up front. Now this would make sense if that was my title as the other ladies have said title and are in a different part of the building. It seems any question I have about polices gets deflected whereas my colleagues with more professional titles he never re-directs.
Any time my colleagues need to take off, it is not problem they also are not forced to clock in. I sit in the back with my coworkers and I am the only one on the clock. I feel like I cannot get away from my desk for any reason. If other people want to exercise or walk on their break it is fine, if i do then I have to clock in and out. Since being employed I have only used 2 days of my vacation time. I unfortunately got Covid last month and according to new CDC rules they were like oh your reported on a Thur. you can come back on Mon., yet my kid also got it and the school district was like no, he has to be out until Thurs. (3 additional days). ( I work for the same school district) They tried to make me use my paid leave for it but I refused and just said I'll take it unpaid. Granted other people have the ability to work from home.
I already feel that although I report to the director, sit back with the group, and support this dept. anytime I have questions he keeps referring to me to this bitchy micromanaging manager who is super power hungry and I am sick of it.
Every since I took unpaid leave my dept. has been acting a complete ass, even had the bitch manager joke that I was not dedicated to the job, but what did they expect for me to leave my kid at home alone. I am just fed up with the bullshit at this point. Things are so tense that I don't even talk to the director or acknowledge his existence. I feel that basically although I sit with the group, report to the director on paper there is some shady politics where my boss yields to a friggin manager who is BELOW him.
Remember I am the only person on the fucking clock and I get a 1 hr for lunch. During Christmas my boss (the director) wanted me to come with our group because vendors paid for us to have lunch. I would not have minded one bit but those lunches typically last well over 1 hr (they are also off site so factor in driving time) which would mean I would have a deficit of time to “make up.” He was insistent on me going and turned red when I declined. Keep in mind, the guys do not have their time monitored like a hawk so they could stay for as long as they like, but with little old me it would be a different story in its entirety. So rather go, I just declined and that did not go over well with him at all, but these are your rules. The HR Assistant prior to me did not have to clock in. They started this new rule a month prior to me starting. When I brought it up to my manager when I first started, he was like I did not know you had to clock in. I guess it is a district policy but other employees do not have too.
Do you think I should flat out quit what do you think is going on. I personally think my chicken shit director is scared of the manager.
