Dodged a bullet

I had an interview with a company three weeks ago for a desktop support position. I've worked in data centers on server hardware, I've been a system Admin, and I've done desktop support in the past. The guy interviewing me was a good 25 minutes late to that interview. They got back to me a week later saying I was overqualified for the position and that they had chosen another candidate. They reached out to me early last week about interviewing for a similar position (still in the it support realm). I said why not and had scheduled the interview. My work ended up running way over and I missed the interview time. Had no further contact from anyone in that company, until today. I get a call today, I screen it first then decide to answer it since I didn't recognize the name but it was regarding an interview.…

I get a call today, I screen it first then decide to answer it since I didn't recognize the name but it was regarding an interview. The guy asks if he's speaking (name), I say he is. He already sounds like he's either incredibly hung over, is drinking, or was on something else. He goes on about how I was supposed to have the interview and that if I was going to miss the interview than I should've notified them. I explained that where I work I cannot have my phone on me, so I had no way of reaching when I realized I wasn't going to be able to make the interview time.

He says that's my fault, that I shill should've told them ahead of time. Nothing else to say I'm getting ready to just hang up the phone and he goes “Don't hang up, you need to hear this. People these days think they deserve this or deserve that. Nobody deserves anything until they prove it. In my day people would've be gracious to interview for a company like this and you just blow it off like it's nothing. Good luck ever finding a job with that attitude.” Note: It's a tiny startup that has horrible retention.

Yet, I just interviewed with the CEO and CFO last Thursday at a different company for a different IT position, flying colors during it. Have an interview tomorrow with a Service Manager, Senior Network Engineer, and the founder of the company. But, my attitude will get me nowhere and I'm horribly unappreciative of a company with terrible retention rates and lacking forward thinking giving me a second chance? Nah.. I think I dodged a bullet on that one.
