Does anyone else find it completely insane that overtime only applies to total week hours, and not working over 8 hours in a day

The amount of times I've been scheduled 10-12 hours at food service or retail jobs and it ruins my entire following 24hrs is ridiculous. Between commute, sleep, and chores that's literally your entire day, and exhausts you for the next day too. I never understood how this doesn't qualify for overtime pay in any way
