Doing accounting but not being paid for extra work Spoiler: I’m not an accountant!

I just want to make sure I’m not gaslighting myself by being upset about the fact that I am required to do accounting (we hold education conferences and have to refund people their expenses) and I’m not being paid for my extra responsibilities in my new role. Background: I’ve been at my current job for about 3 years and was promoted and moved to a different position over 4 months ago when I was told I’d be getting a 20% raise. My old department disbanded and we got shifted. Of course, that was a verbal offer for the raise but the kicker is that my new role has been doing accounting work, learning an accounting system for processing over 400 claims in a 30 day period on top of my other duties which include planning these events. Of course, that was a verbal offer for the raise but the kicker is that my new role has been doing accounting work, learning an accounting system for processing over 400 claims in a 30 day period on top of my other duties which include planning these events.

And the really frustrating thing is that the accounting department gets on my case about the accounting work not being done in a timely manner when they have the opportunity to hire an actual accountant who can do the work faster. They pushed the work off on me rather than hiring a temp account to assist me.

My boss has been very supportive and understanding but I am mainly upset about not getting a raise (they are supposed to have a discussion with HR about it this month).

And I know a raise isn't solid unless it's in writing.

I can't quit because I am about to go under the process of buying my first home because I need to lower my housing expenses because my job doesn't pay me enough to afford a higher rent. I was banking on that raise to help with rent hikes this summer. Where I live it is cheaper to buy than rent in a nearby city vs the capital.

I barely made $57K last year and a 20% raise would take me to $70K. I have a masters degree and while I am aware I should make more money, I plan to quit in a year once my home is finally bought.

Just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.
