Artificial intelligence began in the 1940's with the development of computers and calculators.
By the 1980's we were able to create computers that could defeat grandmasters in chess.
In another 40 year's time, we now have general purpose AI like Siri, Alexa, and ChatGPT which can perform numerous advanced functions and are getting better every day.
We can also combine this technology with robots to create robots that can perform advanced acrobatic and physical functions (Boston Robotics, for example).
So imagine how far AI will be developed in another 40 year's time and even within 10 years time.
Within another 40 years time, I wouldn't be surprised if AI took up over half of the jobs we have nowadays.
Because any output or function a human can do, an AI will inevitably be able to do far better and more efficiently.
So by the end of the century, human jobs will be far less focused on performing functions or working with information, and more on creating new things and gathering information.
Because the limits of AI is that it can only work within the information and functions it is given. Only humans have the capacity to do things beyond their typical functions and create and gather new information (art, exploration, philosophy, etc.)
The sooner this new age happens, however, the sooner companies will begin replacing all the work we humans don't truly want to do with robots, and the sooner governments and companies will need to act to adapt to the new AI era and allow humans to survive and thrive without having to work the jobs we don't want to do.
TL:DR; AI tech is developing ridiculously fast and will soon be able to replace the majority of our jobs by the end of the century. The sooner we welcome this new age, the sooner we can get out of the crappy jobs we don't want and create a new way for humans to live (hopefully, a better way).
