Dress codes are about control

My sister was unemployed for the first year of Covid. Then she was finally hired for a waitress job which she has done for over a decade. She owns a pair of black non-slip shoes and grey non-slip shoes. First day on the job they were appalled she didn’t show up in white non-slip shoes. Which you wouldn’t buy unless part of the uniform because in the restaurant they get really dirty and scuffed up easily. No one told her she had to have them prior. The other thing is we live in a very remote tourist area with no shoe stores or uniform stores for 100 miles. So they sent her home for the day.
