So, I’ll start with breaking down the situation, but I’m looking for advice. I just started working seasonal retail at a company in the wine and liquor industry. I have a degree in wine and extensive knowledge in the field that is praised by all of my coworkers and easily exceeds any other single person’s background. I have learned that I am payed $5 less than every other member on the sales team. Specifically, I am $18 and the minimum for others is $23. I even found out that there are several cashiers that are also paid more than I am, which is less relevant, but nonetheless concerning. I believe that I have been discriminated against or somehow totally screwed in the hiring process. I was absolutely deceived that I was being well compensated and appreciated for my background. I plan on bringing up the pay discrepancy tomorrow. How do I proceed without litigation?
